You can please everyone with one selection – it just has to be the right one. You are a vegetarian, your husband is hard-core carnivore, and your kids have pretty much sworn off anything green. You may think that you only have two choices: either prepare four or five meals each night, or let everyone fend for themselves.
But no one has time to prepare multiple meals! Besides, wouldn't it be nice to have a meal together-instead of watching someone eat a bowl of Cheerios, while two other people share take-out moo goo gai pan, and you're finishing leftovers? Believe it or not, it is possible to please everyone with one meal. Here are five ideas to keep you covered for at least next week: Assemble a burrito or fajita bar. Provide bowls of poached chicken, steamed vegetables, refried beans, low-fat shredded cheese and tortilla shells. Each person can custom-make his or her own, and leftovers won't make you feel like you're eating the same meal all over again. You can use the chicken in a salad or make brown rice to use with any remaining veggies. Hot potato! Bake potatoes and offer a variety of toppings: low-fat cheeses, mushrooms, broccoli, salsa and low-fat sour cream. Personalized pizzas. Buy individualized pizza shells, lots of vegetables and low-fat cheeses. Making the pizzas can be a family project, and you can catch up on your day while you're waiting for them to cook. Stir-fry. Steam a big bowl of rice and provide a range of vegetables. Everyone can fill a bowl with their preferred ingredients, and you can all take turns frying them in the wok. Grill it! Grilling lends itself well to customizing. There are so many different kinds of burgers now: salmon burgers, veggie burgers, turkey burgers out there now. All of them can be thrown on the grill together, but keep an eye on the cooking times. |
