FitTip: Be Vigilant About Your Form on the Stairclimber Print E-mail
Written by Diet Detective Editorial Staff
Why taking the proper steps makes a difference.

When you're tired, it's easy to lean forward on the handlebars of the stairclimber so that you can step without really having to deal with the weight of your upper body. Sure you know it's cheating, but did you know that your workout's nowhere near as effective when you do that? What's worse, you could be courting injury. Hunching over on the bars creates an overload on the spinal discs and stretches the back muscles in an unnatural position.

Instead of leaning forward, keep upright on the machine with your hands resting lightly on the rails for balance only. Once you're more comfortable with the mechanics of the exercise, it's ideal not to use the rails at all, instead pumping your arms or locking them behind you like a speed skater.
