FitTip: Ease Your Mind While You Work Out Print E-mail
Written by Diet Detective Editorial Staff
When the Seven Dwarfs touted the virtues of whistling while they worked, they were definitely onto something.

Research indicates that engaging your mind while you exercise helps you focus on the present, and by doing so, relieves stress.

To make your workout a psychologically refreshing one, try a little meditation while you're at it.

Some simple meditation tricks include repeating one word (such as "peace" or "move"), or counting or humming while you work out. If you're on a treadmill or stairclimber, try the soldiers' trick of chanting "right" when you step with your right foot and "left" when you step with your left.

Whatever your mantra, you can still stay quiet at the gym--these techniques are equally effective when performed aloud or only in your head.
