Walking isn’t just for women and the elderly, but that’s what the media would have you think.

Walking has an image problem with many people. While the benefits of walking are well known (aerobic conditioning, easy on the joints, etc.), many people have considered walking as an activity for those who can't do 'real' sports (you know, it's not a real sport unless you get yourself hurt easily). This is especially true for the gender divide that you see in walkers.
