In the arena of ideas about diet and health, I can't help but notice a trend lately within Christian circles to start talking about weight loss from the perspective of what God would have humans eat from a Biblical perspective. For those who are nonbelievers, this kind of discussion is a non sequitur since the concept of a Creator and His instruction manual for living life are completely foreign to them.

But with tens of millions of Bible-believing, God-fearing Christians in the United States alone, anyone who quotes Scripture and makes an assertion about a subject based on verses from the Bible will at least capture the attention of the faith-based crowd and quite possibly convince them that they are right.

Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D., is a registered dietitian who maintains a private practice in New York City, and is the author of Strong, Slim, and 30!  (McGraw-Hill, 2006). She counsels some of New York's most prestigious and visible personalities, including television celebrities, models, and high profile politicians and executives. She is a distinguished speaker and has been a key presenter for the American Dietetic Association, the American Liver Foundation, and Purdue University.

Lisa received her B.S. with Distinction in nutritional sciences from Cornell University, where she received the Robinson Award for Academic Excellence. In 1997 she was the recipient of the New York State Dietetic Association Scholarship. She completed her dietetic internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Lisa earned her masters degree in the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program at New York University.
