Tip of the Day:
What It Takes to Burn Off Pad Thai
When it comes to Thai cuisine, pad Thai, which literally means "fried Thai style," is one of the most popular dishes. It consists of rice noodles stir-fried with eggs, fish sauce, chili pepper, and any combo of vegetables, shrimp, chicken, and tofu. Sounds good, right? While it's certainly delicious, at more than 500 calories and 15-plus grams of fat per serving (and most restaurant portions consist of at least two servings), it will cost you some time and energy to burn off!
Exercise Equivalents
- Walking: 153 minutes
- Running: 51 minutes
- Swimming: 97 minutes
- Bicycling: 73 minutes
While pad Thai is high in calories and fat, it's usually made with peanut oil, which is a healthy, monounsaturated fat. You still need to watch how much you eat, though. Split the dish with a friend, or take home two-thirds and have leftovers for a couple of days. If you start your meal with a clear, broth-based soup or a salad, you won't be as hungry for the main dish
