Here are three ideas to keep your hair as healthy as your body during water workouts.Chlorine can remove natural oils in your skin and hair, drying them out, and can also really do a number on color-treated hair. If your hair seems to suffer from your water workouts, try one of these pre-pool prep tips:
Wet your hair in the shower beforehand. Doing so makes it harder for your hair to absorb water laden with chemicals.
Wear a swim cap-even if you have short hair and even though your hair will probably still get wet. "Caps do offer some protection," writes Jane Katz, Ed.D., in her book Swimming for Total Fitness (Doubleday, 1993). "If you don't wear a cap, your hair is completely exposed to the pool chemicals, and it is whipped around in the water the way your clothes are in a washing machine."
Wet your hair in the shower, apply a leave-in conditioner, which protects your hair from the chemicals in the pool and minimizes the prospect of hair breakage, and don a swim cap. Trackback(0)
