Combining resistance training with a run is nothing but a recipe for injury.
You might think that running with weights is a great way to tone your arms and get your blood pumping at the same time. Actually, it's just a great way to hurt yourself. Running with ankle weights increases the risk of injury to your knees, ankles and hips. Carrying hand weights while you run also affects your back, shoulders, elbows and wrists. Why? One reason overweight people need to lose weight is the added stress that extra weight puts on their joints.. Going faster, as when you run, increases the impact on your joints, and that added weight only increases the force of impact. Trying to combine two forms of exercise, such as cardio and strength training, just sets you up for injury. Save your weight training for after your run or use it as a warm-up beforehand.
