FitTip: A Strong Upper Body Can Make You Look More Confident Print E-mail

To build a better physique, start from the top. Do you tend to focus your workouts on the body parts you think of as your trouble spots, yet you never see an overall improvement in your appearance? For example, you may spend over an hour on the treadmill for your legs, or torture your abdominals with 30 minutes' worth of crunches, but you ignore your chest and back, with less than impressive results.

That's because the key to power and presence is a strong upper body. Strengthening your chest and back muscles allows you to stand up straighter and breathe easier, which means you'll appear taller, slimmer and more poised. And toned pectoral muscles help fight the effects of gravity, keeping breasts looking firmer, longer. So grab some free weights, resistance bands or a body bar-or just get back to basics with some push-ups and shadow boxing-to build a better body starting at the top.
