Here’s what to look for when shopping for a jogging stroller.
There's no need to drop your running regimen just because you've got a
little one in the house. A jogging stroller lets you head outdoors and
hit the road or trail while bonding with your baby.
To ensure the safest ride for you and your baby, make sure the jogging stroller has these five features:
1. Hand leash
Just as a surfboard has a safety leash to keep it from drifting off to
sea, your jogging stroller should have a hand leash that attaches to
the stroller in case you lose your grip on the handlebars while going
downhill. Mylrea also recommends standing in front of the stroller and
making sure the handlebars can be adjusted to your height when you're
standing straight and tall; you shouldn't have to lean over to reach
the handlebars.
2. Wide tires
The wider the tires, the smoother the ride, says Mylrea. You want your
baby to have a comfortable, not jarring, ride. Also, the tires and seat
should be placed far apart to ensure stability so the stroller won't
tip over.
3. Child safety strap
A good safety strap will keep your child in place, especially when
you're going downhill or if you need to come to a sudden stop. Mylrea
says that although there are different types of seat belts, she
recommends looking for one that's designed like a car seat safety strap.
4. Comfortable seating
Take your baby or child with you when you go to look at strollers. Put
him or her in the stroller and make sure your little one doesn't sink
too far down into the seat. Your child should be able to sit
comfortably and with good posture, not slumped over. You also want a
stroller that will accommodate your child as he or she grows. There
should be extra room in the width and length of the seat bucket, as
well as the seat back, to support a bigger child.
5. Weather protection
The stroller should have an adjustable or permanent cover-up or canopy
that will shield your baby from the sun or, if necessary, the rain.
