FitTip: Stretching Can Prevent Neck Strains Caused by Telephone Use Print E-mail

Talking to customers or clients all day on the phone can be a real pain in the neck. If you hold the phone between your shoulder and your ear by tilting your head, you could be putting a lot of stress on your neck muscles. Take a short break to do the following stretch between calls, and you'll bring relief to the area in which you're likely to be storing the majority of your stress. Stand up with your feet shoulder-width apart. Reach your left hand behind you and press the back of your hand against the small of your back. Tilt your head towards your right shoulder, and gently press it downward with your right hand. Make sure that you're keeping your body erect. Only your head should be moving. Hold the stretch for 15 seconds. Switch sides and repeat.
