FitTip: Stress Damages Your Skin Print E-mail

What to do when the stress gets under your skin.

A stressful day can take its toll on your face. When you feel an increased amount of tension, your body releases adrenaline, which tightens your blood vessels, ultimately depriving your skin of the oxygen it needs to breathe. If your skin can't breathe and your pores become clogged, breakouts are inevitable.

Emotional tension also causes you to contract the muscles in your face. So what you think is a momentary pout or furrow between the brows can cause permanent lines and wrinkles, making you look older than you are. So when you feel day-to-day pressures getting the better of you, take a deep breath, exhale slowly and try to relax for short-term stress relief and long-term beauty.
