FitTip: Exercise Can’t Rid You of a Cold Print E-mail

If you’re sick, rest will do more good than working out.

It's pretty much common knowledge: Exercise can help you keep your heart and lungs healthy, and it can boost your immunity too. However, when you get a case of the  sniffles, working out won't make it go away any faster. Experts say that while exercise does increase your core body temperature, it doesn't raise it enough to kill viruses.

Once you've caught a cold, give yourself a little time to recuperate: Don't skimp on sleep, and take a break from physical exertion for a few days. Pushing your limits at the gym can prolong your illness and may even make it more severe. So, use a cold as an excuse to take a few days off from your exercise routine. The more you rest, the sooner you'll be feeling like yourself.

When you're body's ready to put in some quality time at the gym again, you'll know it.
