The Less Is More Myth When trying to lose weight, eating fewer meals may seem like a great idea. But is skipping meals really going to help you shed those pounds?

MYTH: Skipping meals and drastically lowering your calorie intake is an effective method of weight loss.

FACT: Losing weight is about following a sensible eating plan, NOT a starvation plan.

Skipping meals is never a good way to lose weight because this method always ends up sabotaging your good weight loss intentions. When you finally do eat, you are likely to feel so "over-hungry" that you'll end up eating MORE than if you hadn't skipped the meal. Plus, restricting your calories too much over an extended period of time will actually cause your body to enter what is known as starvation mode. Your metabolism will slow down to accommodate your lowered calorie intake, and your body will try to conserve fat rather than burn it for energy. The end result? A weight-loss plateau, not to mention nutrient deficiencies.

Planning for meals and snacks is an important strategy for weight loss success. When you are busy, you may not notice your hunger, but that doesn't mean that your body doesn't need refueling.

So...Skip for exercise - not for weight loss!
