Here's what happens: When you subject yourself to drastic dieting methods, your body goes into "starvation mode" - a biological survival mechanism. And as a result, your body becomes a fuel efficiency machine in an attempt to burn as little energy as possible - hardly what you want when trying to lose weight! Your basic metabolic rate decreases and you store every fat gram, making it extremely difficult to shed any additional pounds.

And thus the typical yo-yo dieting cycle emerges: The harder you to try to limit your calories, the more your body resists. And you watch in disbelief and disappointment as the scale numbers nose-dive and then soar with each new diet plan you try.

Ready for the punch line folks? This "weight thermostat" is why all deprivation diets - bar none - offer only short-lived results. Sooner or later, you'll find it impossible to maintain your new lean physique because the weight is guaranteed to return.

But don't despair just yet! The good news is that you're not a victim of your metabolism! You can take control and tweak your thermostat. So, as an alternative to the biological (and emotional) roller coaster of crash dieting, try taking it easy. Lose weight gradually and healthily without starving your body - one to two pounds per week - through exercising regularly and eating a balanced, nutritious diet. That way, you can make changes in your health and appearance, which will be with you for a lifetime.
