Q: Do fad diets, such as the grapefruit diet, really work? A: You may be surprised to hear this, but fad diets do work. You can lose weight on fad diets, but can you maintain it? Not usually. Fad diets are designed to result in a large amount of weight loss in a short period of time. While this may sound appealing, the more rapidly you lose weight, the more likely it is that you will regain it.The trick to losing weight and keeping it off is to make permanent lifestyle changes. Fad diets do not teach you how to change your lifestyle. Instead, they offer a quick fix. When you decide to go "on" a fad diet, it is likely you will also go "off" that diet and back to the same eating habits that caused you to gain weight in the first place. And who can blame you? Very few people can stick to the unrealistic eating plans that are typically recommended with these types of diets, which is why most of these diets fail in the long run. The initial results can certainly seem promising, but if your goal is to maintain your weight loss for good, it is best to stick with the traditional approach - limit your portions, eat well-balanced meals, and get plenty of exercise. Sure it takes longer, but the end results are worth it! Trackback(0)
