Q: I like to snack on potato chips, but I know that they are high in calories and fat. What would be a better choice?

A: Often times, making small changes to your diet can significantly impact your overall calorie and fat consumption.

For example, simply substituting baked potato chips for regular saves 100 calories per serving and 13 g of fat -- not to mention the fact that baked chips contain absolutely no saturated fat!

If you are in the mood for a more exotic snack, try one of the many varieties of veggie chips (including sweet potato!) now available on supermarket shelves that are lower in both fat and calories than the traditional chip.

Chips aside, there are many other options for satisfying snacking that are just as quick and easy. Try pairing sweet baby carrots with a low fat dip, a dish of sorbet or low fat microwave popcorn. If it is a salty snack that you crave, a pickle is perfect at just 25 calories and zero fat each. Last but certainly not least, fruit is prepackaged, portable and packed with vitamins and minerals.
