Keep Your Bike Like New Print E-mail

A little maintenance can go a long way toward staying roadworthy.

Is your normally reliable bike screaming out for attention? If your idea of bike maintenance is adding a frilly basket to the handlebars, you may be neglecting your two-wheeled cruiser.
Keeping your bike like new only requires a few routine tweaks. Every month, check bike parts such as your chain, brake levers and shifter for lubrication. In addition, check all the spokes as well as the nuts and bolts for tightness. After six months of heavy riding, your brake pads may need replacing and your gear shifters may need to be readjusted.  And give it a cleaning every three to six months for crying out loud. If getting down and dirty is not your idea of an enjoyable summer, try having a bike shop do the work for you. Expect to pay around $30 for a tune-up. A couple of small repairs and adjustments can keep you roadworthy all summer long.
