Calorie Bargain: Cherry Pie Larabar
The Why: These raw food bars from Larabar are made with almonds, cherries, and unsweetened dates. Made with 100% natural ingredients, the bar does not contain any dairy, gluten, added sugar, cholesterol, or saturated fat.
The Health Bonus: Each bar contains 4 grams of fiber (18% of daily recommendation) and two grams of omega-6 fatty acids. Eating one bar is equivalent to 1.5 servings of fruit.
What We Liked Best: Larabars are “clean” enough to give to your children. There are a number of flavors available (including cinnamon roll, banana bread, and peanut butter cookie), and each flavor contains no more than two to six ingredients. They are also comparatively lower in calories than other energy bars (190 calories versus 250 +).
What We Liked Least: They’re a bit spendy – they retail for around $1.75 - $1.95 per bar. You can buy them in bulk on the website; 16 bars for $27 (about $1.69 per bar). However, you can’t find out the exact shipping costs without putting in a credit card number.
What It Replaces: Over-processed diet and energy bars made with mile-long ingredients lists.
The Price: $1.75 - $1.95 per bar retail; 16 bars for $27 (plus shipping) on website
