FitTip: Recumbent Bike Benefits Switch to a recumbent bike for a better workout.

If you like to go for a spin on the stationary bike at the gym but find yourself cutting your sessions short because the seat is too uncomfortable, try a recumbent bike. A wider seat with a sturdy back not only makes a bike more comfortable to use for longer periods of time but also provides low-back support that you don't get while sitting on an upright bike. Because the pedals on a recumbent are positioned in front of you rather than directly below, you will work your glutes and thighs differently than on a traditional bicycle, which will give you new results from your cycling workout. Also, if you're a type A multi-tasker, you'll appreciate that recumbent bikes free your hands to hold a newspaper or magazine so you can catch up on some reading as you work out.
