Staying Motivated Print E-mail

As celebrity excuses go, I think “I’ve always been an active person” ranks right up there with genetic blessings and a certain holistic mat exercise. But let’s be honest—not everyone thinks the gym is party central. Which is why I’m happy to hear Christina Aguilera admit to Glamour, "I hate working out. I have to mentally push myself through it. I can get very whiny." Hear hear, sister. So how does she stay on track?

Her first rule of thumb: No tough-love trainers. "Mean training is not motivating to me at all; I like to be comforted," she says. But a little positive reinforcement can coax her to seriously bust her butt. Think bicycle crunches by the hundreds, pull-ups (so far she can crank out five), and running on the treadmill...backwards...on an incline.

In other words, the motivation may not always be there, but sometimes you just have to power through it.

By the way, despite Hollywood’s obsession with post-baby fitness, I feel like Christina has her priorities in check. "I was okay with the booty and the boobs," she explains—she was just worried her swollen feet wouldn’t fit into her massive shoe collection. Nice to hear a little honesty for a change.
