How Healthy is Hathaway? Print E-mail

I was going to make some sort of “get smart about fitness” pun, but damn it, Self beat me to the punch. Whatever—the point is, I’m feeling a little ambivalent about Anne Hathaway’s latest diet and fitness revelations.

Anne says that, after her “scary” weight loss for The Devil Wears Prada, she gained back ten pounds and swore off crash diets. So for her role as an agent in Get Smart, she focused on strength instead of the number on the scale. “I strength trained three times a week, and I ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes or three miles, whichever came first.”

She also blames her finicky stomach for her super-healthy eating plan—she simply can’t do lactose, sugar, spicy foods, fried foods, or processed flour. As the Church Lady would say, how convenient. “I have a lot of food sensitivities,” she explains. “I know that sounds like code for ‘I’m anorexic.’”

Well, maybe not anorexic, but certainly very Hollywood. I have to admit—I’m pretty ambivalent about Anne Hathaway in general. Her sound bites never quite seem to jive with her actions. I mean, she gushed about house-hunting with her wonderful boyfriend, then managed to dump him approximately three minutes before he was busted by the FBI. So I have to wonder if all this organic-eating, muscle-building talk is just a red herring to distract from the fact that she still looks like this.
