Summer Fun in a Turtleneck Print E-mail

Yes, summer is alot like New Year's Eve.  We make resolutions, lists and goals.
I started with my summer goals this week.

       1- Get a new haircut
2- Buy a pair of stylish sunglasses
       3- Book a summer vacation
4- Get a facial, manicure and pedicure
       5- Lose 15 lbs
That's my list.  And I am ready.  It's all going good.  I am perfect...well, except for goal #5. Yes, I am finding myself falling into that old, despicable trap; the "if only I could..."syndrome. I know, I should take my own advice and reread some of my previous blogs, but it's too late!!! I am having a summer setback.   If only I could check off goal
# 5 from my list, I would be truly happy.  I would walk down the streets of New York city, light
as a feather, with my ipod and flip flops, sporting some fabulous new perfume from Sarah Jessica Parker.  God, if only it wasn't for goal #5.

It follows me wherever I go. It holds me back.  Wear a bathing suit? No, can't!  Can't do that it till I meet goal #5.   Buy a  summer wardrobe?  Nope, don't buy anything till we meet compliance with G5.  Hey, that's okay anyway, I guess.  No really, I enjoy grilling in a turtleneck! And after all, who doesn't get a bit chilly in 95 degree temperatures.

For me, this demon works the opposite way also. Want a third helping of Rocky Road, go ahead....it's not like we've reached goal #5. Going to hell with yourself at a friend's wedding....so what, people only get married once a lifetime--we can worry about goal #5 tomorrow, and everyday after that... till we reach the damn thing.

Goal #5--it's everywhere, it's nowhere, it's all consuming.  And unattainable. Not that loosing 15 lbs is unattainable, but it's goal #5 that is unattainable. You see, when I finally reach that goal, I then make a new one for myself. Great, lost 15 lbs, let's lose 5 more!  Lost 5 more, great, let's work on that Buddha belly. And this list goes on.  Thus, goal #5 is always just out of reach.

I wish I could live life today, right now,  as if I've reached goal #5. Hey! Maybe I'll make that my next goal #5.
