Papa John’s Introduces 100% Whole-Wheat Crust Pizza Print E-mail
by Charles Stuart Platkin

Yes - it's true. I will taste this product in the next few days and let you know.... Beginning May 26, Papa John’s will become the first national pizza chain to add a 100 percent whole-wheat crust to its menu. Available at all 2,700+ Papa John’s restaurants in the U.S., one large slice of cheese pizza on the whole-wheat crust will contain fewer calories, two-and-a-half times the fiber and less sodium when compared to one large slice of cheese on the original Papa John’s pizza crust.

RE: Whole Wheat is better...

True Jimmy, but if this is 100% whole wheat, no enriched or white flour, then we are talking low-glycemic/complex carbohydrates that don't spike blood sugar levels anywhere near a traditonal pizza crust.

If you are craving a pizza, this WOULD be a healthy alternative (or better yet, Boboli now also makes a 100% whole wheat crust - control what you put on it and you always win.)
Whole Wheat is better...

but you still are loading people up with carbohydrates which raise blood sugar levels and excrete insulin into the body which leads to weight gain and the development of disease. While a good step in the right direction, Papa John's pizza will never be healthful. :)
