The Why: Lisa Lillien is fabulously creative when it comes to making fun healthy food taste great. She’s also a real person, a hungry girl, “not a nutritionist,” and relates well to her audience in this fantastic recipe book. The recipes are easy to follow, great tasting, and practical. She has recipes for healthy burgers, chocolate cake, frozen margaritas, fudge, French fries and onion rings. The book is a great gift or treat for yourself. The Health Bonus: Nutritional information so you can decide if it’s worth the splurge – nice touch! What We Liked Best: The funky, creative recipe names. Also the fact that all the recipes are easy to read, fabulous tasting, and healthy. What We Liked Least: Wish there were more of those full color photos with the recipes; it would be fantastic to see what every recipe looked like when Lisa prepares them. What It Replaces: Other recipe books that are not as creative and not “Hungry Girl” tested. The Price: $17.95 Where to Buy: Click here. It's appalling how many people think low-calorie fake foods are "healthy."

I just looked up "Hungry Girl"s Red Velvet Insanity cupcakes posted on Women's Health's site, and yikes! --you call that healthy? Artificial sweeteners, cake mixes, food coloring, and Cool Whip! The only 'real' thing seems to be some chocolate chips (mini); the eggs have been replaced with non-fat egg-beater, which is not a terrible substitution. All in all, it's a scary introduction to the cookbook. I hope it is not indicative of the general level of 'health' overall.
