Turning to look behind you is not really a difficult thing to do.Turning to look behind you is not really a difficult thing to do. A little practice in any empty parking lot will assure that you continue to ride a straight line. One important trick when looking over your left shoulder is to drop your left arm (so you steer with the right arm). Then it's easier to swivel your whole torso without inadvertently twisting the bars. Another method for looking behind you, if you are in a tucked position on the drops of the handlebars, is to look under your arm. It's no way to go sightseeing, but I recommend this for racers who are a few seconds off the front of a chasing pack and cannot afford the precious time to sit up and look back. Turning to look behind you in a pack of riders is potentially more dangerous since the slightest swerve could cause an accident. The safest way to turn to look behind you in a group is to ride next to someone, and with one hand on your bars, guide yourself by putting the other hand on the rider beside you. Touching another rider like this in competition is actually illegal, but as long as you brace yourself off a friend or teammate (and don't do it for too long) no one should mind. Trackback(0)
