Okay, so this isn't totally celeb-related, but I just had to share. I just read about a new children's book on the market called "My Beautiful Mommy," which hopes to teach kids about the ins and outs of plastic surgery. The author says it's all about fostering understanding, so kids won't be scared when they see their mom in the hospital. Click through for the link, and see what you think. (Wait, did I just rhyme? This children's book thing is getting to me!)

You can view a couple of excerpts here:

Let me preface this by saying I'm totally NOT against plastic surgery. I wouldn't get it myself, but I'll happily support your quest for a new nose. Why not?

But I thought the going motto for children was "Everyone is beautiful." Or maybe I just watched too much Sesame Street? But the theme of this book seems to run more along the lines of, "Not everyone is beautiful. And if you're not beautiful, you'll need to go to the hospital."  On one page, the mom explains to her teddy bear-clutching daughter that she's going to look "not just different---prettier!" Ugh. I smell serious body image issues in this child's future. No surprise, then, that the book is written by a plastic surgeon in Bal Harbour. Maybe he's trying to drum up some business circa 2019.

Again, I'm not saying plastic surgery is wrong in any way, shape, or form. This just might be the wrong way to approach it. The book is geared towards the under-7 crowd, which I think is a little too young to fully grasp the concept. (I'm not even sure that every adult grasps it, Ashley Tisdale.)

Funny sidenote: The doc who wrote the book admits that the cartoon mommy got a breast augmentation, although that wasn't explicitly discussed in the text. So he does have boundaries!

What do you think? Is this a positive message for kids, or a little skewed?

I have had plastic surgery and I do not believe this is something that should be discussed with a child. While yes, your kid should know you had surgery of some sort (because they are not stupid and will know SOMETHING happened) they should not be told it was plastic surgery for mommy to be prettier! That's just ludicrous! Once they are old enough to understand it (teenage years) then you can discuss it with them.
