Celebrity Cellulite Print E-mail

Nope, it’s not celebrities with cellulite. It’s cellulite with its own coterie of panting paparazzi. Seriously.

It’s not as weird as it sounds.

Cellulite is either there or it isn’t—it’s dictated by genetic predisposition, not by a few extra pounds. But in a pinch, it can be created, which makes for a shocking cover photo. See, if you stalk a bikini-clad celebrity long enough, you’ll eventually capture that millisecond in time when she stands at just the right angle, her skin stretches almost imperceptibly, the shutter clicks at exactly the right juncture and—omg, is that a dimple?!

Cellulite expert Dr. Lionel Bisson* says the “cellulite” spotted on stars like Jennifer Love Hewitt doesn’t fit the medical definition. He calls it celebrity cellulite—the kind that’s only visible when walking, twisting, or bending. It can ruin a pic, but it’s not really cellulite.

How do you spot the difference? Cellulite is visible even when standing still, and it doesn’t come and go with weight fluctuations (although weight loss can minimize its appearance). Look at Mischa Barton—proof that cellulite can afflict even the skinniest stars. And proof that, ultimately, it’s no big deal. But try telling that to the paparazzi.

* Awesome job title.

Yes, I hate it; I weigh 100 lbs and have a bad case of cellulite. It truly sucks. :(
