Scout's Honor Print E-mail

So, I’m not the only one who can’t resist those evil peddlers who lurk outside the grocery store...you know, Girl Scouts. Looks like Reese Witherspoon heeds the call of the cookie as well. So how much of a calorie splurge are they?

Reese picked up a box of Thin Mints and a box of Shortbread. Each Thin Mint contains 40 calories, around 3g of sugar, and 0.5g of protein. Shortbreads contain 30 calories each, 1g of sugar and a negligible amount of protein. They may be empty calories, but if you can stop at one or two, they’re a healthier splurge than other cookie brands. (The average Chips Ahoy, for example, contains about 70 calories.)

But not every Girl Scout cookie is so virtuous—Caramel deLites (the artist formerly known as the Samoa) clock in at 70 calories each and 6.5g of sugar. Lemonades pack 75 calories and 4.5g of sugar. And my personal pick, the Peanut Butter Patties (a.k.a. Tagalongs), pack in 75 calories and 5g of sugar—although they do have a gram of protein each, courtesy of the PB.

Hmm. Looks like Reese might have done her research before cookie-shopping.
