Rihanna-By-Numbers Print E-mail

While her pop star peers have been losing weight the old-fashioned way—namely some combo of detox diets and energy-boosting substances—Rihanna seems to have gone a more traditional route. And it’s paid off.

She’s toned—not because she’s so skinny and dehydrated that you can see individual muscle fibers, but because she actually hauls her butt to the gym every day and earns it. And if you love crunching numbers like I do, she weighs in at 133 pounds on a 5-foot-8 frame. That puts her BMI at 20, right in the middle of the normal range.

Her shape-up secrets:

DIET: “Carbs are the enemy,” she says. “But if I go three days without them, I start getting weak.” So her diet includes healthy fare like of fish, potatoes, egg whites, fruits and veggies.

EXERCISE: She credits “a lot of hard work and running on the treadmill…I do weights, but I don’t want my legs to bulk up so I do a lot of cardio.”

MOTIVATION: “Being slim makes me feel better about myself. It boosts my self-esteem, and having a toned body helps with my job because I wear a lot of skimpy costumes.”

Overall, I think she’s a healthy inspiration and she’s got one of the best bodies in the biz. Who else tops your list?

WTF carbs are the enemy? of course you get weak if you go for days without them, you dummy! they are the basic fuel for your cardio. and unless she's shooting up with testosterone, she's not gonna get bulky lifting weights. more muscle = more caloric burn = can do less cardio. ugh. btw, who is rihanna? i honestly have no idea.
