Calorie Bargain: Yotta bars (Orange and Cherry)

The Why: How hard is it to get your kids to eat healthfully?  It’s not always easy, and these bars by Undercover Vegetable Company are a great product, well designed and tasty. There are 7 vegetables inside each bar (tomatoes, asparagus, sweet potatoes, carrots, red bell peppers, beets, & corn). And the bars have ingredients that even your 7-year-old can pronounce.

The Health Bonus: There are only 120 calories per bar, certainly lower than your typical energy and/or candy bar which is between 200 and 300 calories per bar. The bars are an excellent source of Vitamin A and Vitamin C and a good source of iron. They are also low in fat and sodium and do not have an refined sugars or preservatives.

What We Liked Best: The ingredients being all natural, and the fact that kids seem to love the bars.

What We Liked Least: You still need to eat real fruits and veggies, but if you’re going to eat an energy bar or a candy bar, this is certainly a much better alternative. Also, there was a bit of an after-taste—nothing too bad – just something, but the kids didn’t notice it at all.  Oh, no one liked the Apple Cinnamon bar, only the Orange and Cherry.

What It Replaces: Candy, and all the other lousy kids (and adult) snacks.

The Price: $14.49 for 12 bars
