Move Over, Jamba Print E-mail

For awhile there, you couldn’t go two feet in LA (or two pages in a tabloid) without seeing someone lugging around a Jamba Juice. The celeb allegiance was surprising, since a small drink packs about 300 calories. But I just saw pics of a preggo Jessica Alba guzzling an Odwalla fruit drink at Whole Foods, and figured I’d run the numbers to see which is the better pick.

Let’s compare Jessica’s pick—which looks like a Mo Beta to my smoothie-obsessed eyes—to my fave Jamba smoothie, the Orange Dream Machine. Both are sixteen ounces.

CALORIES
Orange Dream Machine: 340
Odwalla Mo Beta: 300

PROTEIN
Orange Dream Machine: 8g
Odwalla Mo Beta: 2g

SUGARS
Orange Dream Machine: 69g
Odwalla Mo Beta: 52g

KEY VITAMINS
Orange Dream Machine: 45% RDA calcium, 35% RDA Vitamin D, 100% RDA Vitamin C
Odwalla Mo Beta: 100% RDA Vitamin A, 320% Vitamin E, 500% Vitamin C

Verdict: Pretty much a tie. The Jamba’s protein might give a better energy boost, but the Odwalla’s dose of C might help if you’re under the weather. Any way you cut it, both are liquid calories—so drink responsibly.

Regardless of the protein and vitamins contained on both these drinks, the crazy amount of sugar should be a deterrent to drinking either!!! Migth as well have a Big Gulp Pepsi.
