Confession: I Drink Diet Soda Print E-mail

I know, I shouldn't drink diet soda, I should be drinking water? Right? I grew up on diets, and one of my lifesavers was diet soda. Now finding out that there may be a "connection" between diet soda and metabolic syndrome (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc...) kinda lets the cat of the bag. You see I know that drinking something like diet soda is probably not good for your diet -- it's not natural -- has chemicals -- and even looks ominous. So now that research is coming out saying it is potentially unhealthy -- well -- it's time to come up with an alternative. It's funny b/c I don't let my daughter drink soda at all. And when she sees me drinking it, at 5 years old, she says "daddy, you know that's bad for you." Yeah, I know, and I will replace it soon with iced tea (which I already drink about 1/2 gallon per day) and more water (not bottled b/c that ruins the environment and not tapped b/c it's dangerous).   Here is an abstract of the study, which says that "The diet soda association was not hypothesized and deserves further study."

About the bottled water- tap water is often just as good if not exactly the same as bottled water. Many, many bottled water companies are actually selling tap water.

Hmm. It's not that it's dangerous per se, but I have a feeling that some day, something will come up saying that it is. Read these articles I wrote on water-- I think they're very helpful. http://www.dietdetective.com/content/view/1889/159/

Why is tap water dangerous? I am a water engineer, and can tell you from experience that municipal tap water is held to a higher standard than that of the bottled water industry! Tap water is safe and good and cheap!
