I was reading an interview with Jennifer Love Hewitt where she outlined her diet and exercise habits for a day. (Here’s where the tabs would insert a hilarious and totally original pun about her food intake, but let’s skip it.) Turn out she’s actually pretty disciplined. She walks her dog, does yoga, and feasts on mostly virtuous fare like chicken-vegetable couscous or tuna. But one thing was missing from her regimen—the zzz’s.

Since she’s starring in a spooky show, late-night shoots are part of the job description. On this particular day, she got home at , slept for three hours, watched some TV, then slept for another hour or two. She headed back to the set at , and planned to shoot until 6 or 7 the next morning. Yikes.

Here’s the problem—when you skimp on sleep, you’re more likely to gain weight. Women who sleep five hours or less per day have three times the risk of packing on pounds compared to women who get seven solid hours. When your body goes into an energy crisis, you need either calories or shut-eye to keep going. That could explain why JLH opts for a sugary breakfast of biscuits and honey, and why she guzzles an energy drink in the wee hours to keep going. Since she can’t change her shoot schedule, she’d probably be smart to invest in some light-blocking curtains so she can snooze longer in the morning. And no, not just to avoid more cellulite pics—sleep deprivation has been linked to a slew of other problems, including high blood pressure and even diabetes.
