Celebs rarely sweat alone, so who makes the best workout buddies?

Ever notice how stars never seem to go solo to the gym? Guess nobody wants to disappear off the radar for even an hour, so they make every workout a paparazzi-worthy event. It’s not a bad plan, actually—women who work out with friends spend 40 percent more time exercising than those who go it alone. So who are the most popular companions?

1. FELLOW SCENESTERS

Remember when Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew McConaughey, and Lance Armstrong were on a kick of working out together? They suddenly became the most-watched trio in the tabs—one day they’re in matching spandex cycling gear, the next they’re running shirtless on the beach. That was a good year...but I digress. Haylie and Hilary Duff are also gym buddies; Haylie introduced Hilary to Pilates, and Hil takes Haylie jogging. It seems like the newest “it” gym buddies are Ashley Tisdale and Vanessa Hudgens, who are documented hitting the gym together almost daily.

2. NEW SQUEEZES

For super-private stars, a tandem workout is a great way to announce the relationship while still playing coy on an official level. (Just pretend to be annoyed when the cameras “catch” ya.) Justin Timberlake may have kept his relationship with Jessica Biel strictly hush-hush, but when you’re jogging with someone in Copenhagen, you’re probably a couple. Same is true when you take your girlfriend’s kids hiking in Malibu —yep, another pro move by Jake Gyllenhaal.

3. PUPS

I’m not saying Jake Gyllenhaal has this down to a science, but he spends a lot of time in Runyon   Canyon with pups Atticus and Boo Radley. Pups are the perfect accessory for stars who don’t want to look like they’re trying to hard—Orlando Bloom and Pete Wentz are among those who spend more time at the dog park than the gym.

So, who's your favorite workout buddy?
