Advice From Losers Print E-mail

Am I the only person who gets all choked up at Biggest Loser weigh-ins? (I just caught a rerun of the Season 2 finale, and when Seth and Matt cried, I cried. So sue me.) Well, now you can have your own tear-jerking skinny moment thanks to tips from the Season 4 contestants.

The cast told TV Guide which weight-loss tips they swear by:

THIRD RUNNER-UP
Isabeau breaks the monotony by splitting her workouts into twice-a-day sessions and taking classes. “I'm a huge advocate for taking any kind of class that gets your heart rate up—spinning, kick-boxing. There's a team atmosphere when you're with other people.” Yeah, it’s called peer pressure—no one wants to be the one ditching their fitness buddy or skipping out on their trainer.

SECOND RUNNER-UP
Hollie lets herself have one cheat meal a week and makes smart subs at the rest of her meals. “If you're eating at a Mexican restaurant, just modify the order: Don't have the chips, order black beans over refried and stick with chicken. Use salsa instead of sour cream and hold the cheese.” Hello, calorie bargains!

FIRST RUNNER-UP
Julie halves her monstrous portions when dining out, and she never skips breakfast: “[The doctors] told us that the only thing all 18 of us had in common was that we never ate breakfast. We never got our metabolism started at the beginning of the day, and by lunchtime we were starving.” A recent study found that people who eat breakfast consume five percent less calories overall—so you basically lop off 100 calories a day by eating more often.

GRAND PRIZE
Bill has one simple rule: “Don't eat anything white. No white bread, no white rice, no white pasta. If you're going to eat carbs, eat something that's whole-grain.” Hear that? No need to cut out carbs—just swap ’em with the healthy stuff.

Of course, nutrition is only half the battle—the Losers also put in a lot of face time with personal trainers. But they’re proof that a few small lifestyle changes can make a huge difference. Now excuse me while I get some Kleenex.
