Disney Wants Your Kid To Be A Vegetarian! Print E-mail

No, this isn't one of those conspiracy blogs about how Disney likes to makes letters in the sand or kills off all the moms in the movies. Actually, it's a compliment to the recent emergence of kids movies with a conscience.

Seems the major movie studios have done a great job lately at inserting solid, inspiring messages into their movies. Seems they've got a bit of conscience going (disclaimer: being a rather IMPERFECT vegetarian, I by no means want to insinuate that vegetarians are more conscientious than others, I'm simply trying here!).

I ran across this interesting article in the Chronicle of Higher Education that shows the recent pro-environment, pro-ecological issues presented by movies such as Ratatouille and Happy Feet (one of my personal favorite movies of all time). Even Chicken Run, which I haven't seen, seems to have anti-agribusiness leanings, according to this article.

Jerry Seinfeld will be starring in the upcoming Bee Movie (coming out next week, November 2, 2007) in which his character realizes that humans have been robbing bees of their honey for centuries. (his words, not mine!..I like honey)

Now, I can't speak to Bee Movie, Ratouille or Chicken Run, because I haven't seen all of them, but I did very much enjoy the ecological message of Happy Feet, which focused on overfishing in the antarctic, and I was happy that my children got a roundabout education in stewardship of our planet.

So, what do you think? Is it a grand conspiracy to instill "liberal values" in your children? Or, are you pleased with the portrayals?
