National Nutrition Month: Are Energy Bars Overhyped?FACT OR FICTION? Before you head out on that run, it's a good idea to have a sports bar to boost your energy and endurance.

FICTION: Although it's a good idea to have a snack an hour or two before exercise, a sports bar is no magic bullet. The energy boost anyone may get by eating a sports bar is unlikely to be due to any one ingredient, but rather the snack itself. These calories, wherever they come from, fuel you better than no snack at all. What's more, sports bars can be expensive. Why not snack on low-fat granola bars, fresh fruit or a bagel for the half the price?
