The Health Bonus: These “steaks” are vegetarian, made with whole grains, and have 7 grams of fiber. What We Liked Best: 4-5 minutes ‘til a great burger. (And the fact that you can look at the patty and see the veggie whole-grain goodness.) What We Liked Least: Warning! The “south of the border” flavors in the Baja are hot. Some of our tasters were reaching for their glass of “agua” after the first bite. What It Replaces: Your pick of “bad” burgers, from drive-through to back yard BBQ. Why not throw one of these on the grill instead? The Price: $5.99 for a box of two. Baja Garden Steaks TM--Made with roasted poblano chilies, pepper jack cheese and cilantro Web Site: http://www.gardenburgergourmet.com/ Where to Buy: Most major supermarkets.
Ingredients: (When “Guacamole” is the toughest ingredient to pronounce, it’s a good thing…) Do you have a Calorie Bargain to share? The Why: OK…we’ll be honest. We’ve always chuckled a bit at the irony of the “Garden Burger”. (The closest we’d ever come to making that name a reality was piling a meat patty high with lettuce and tomatoes…which is quite different from what this company offers.) So for those of you who, for one reason or another, aren’t so into meat patties, Garden Burger has yet another addition to their repertoire: Garden Steaks. Our favorite of their four flavors was the Baja, which have poblano chilies, pepper jack cheese and cilantro.
