I think there’s been a full moon in Hollywood for about two weeks straight. Case in point: What’s the last thing you read about Paris Hilton? The correct answer is nothing, because everyone else has gone so completely bonkers. Between Owen Wilson’s tragic suicide attempt, Amy Winehouse’s claw-baring foot chase, and the three musical atrocities that Britney leaked online this week, I’m sort of on gossip overload. So it’s a relief to read about someone acting normal for a change.

No big surprise, it’s Amanda Bynes, who has managed to stay normal for an entire decade. That has to be some sort of record. (I was going to link to her hilarious “Ask Ashley” skits from 1996 as historical evidence, but in an unprecedented event, they are not on YouTube. Though you can watch some random girl pretending to be Amanda Bynes pretending to be Ashley, which makes my head spin.)

Anyway, Amanda recently told Self magazine she has zero desire to be the prettiest girl in Hollywood : “That’s a vain hope. I want to make people laugh.” Her stay-in-shape plan is similarly low-key. When she doesn’t have time for the gym, she takes the stairs. And her diet is more like a vague attempt to eat protein-rich foods, healthy fats, and small portions. “If there’s food on my plate, I’ll finish it,” she says. “So I’m careful to only take a little.”

Good plan, since an AMA study found that people who used big bowls helped themselves to 56 percent more food than those who used smaller bowls. So at your Labor Day parties this weekend, don’t skip the macaroni salad—just scoop it onto a dessert plate instead. And leave a little room for your burger.
