It's Pizza Time! Wondering how pizza, notorious for being high in fat and calories, can actually be healthy? Read on and you’ll see how pizza can fit into a healthy eating plan!

It's your regular Friday night routine - order a pizza, watch your favorite Tivo'd program, and spend some quality time with your loved ones. Well, that doesn't have to change just because you're trying to lose weight.

There are ways to turn pizza (yes, even pizza) into a healthy food. The trick is all in the toppings!

When you're ordering your pizza, one of the easiest ways to save on calories and fat is simply to go cheeseless. Many pizzerias offer a cheeseless version, but if they don't, you can just pull the cheese off when you get it.

Ask for plenty of veggies on top - like broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, zucchini, mushrooms, even artichoke hearts. Pineapples lend a sweet, fruity taste to your pizza.

Sprinkle your cheeseless pizza with some parmesan cheese for extra flavor.

Want a meatier taste? Choose chicken (not fried!), avoiding meatballs, pepperoni, or sausage which are all loaded with extra fat. Shrimp can also make an excellent, low fat pizza topping.

For the cheese addicts:

If you can't imagine a pizza without cheese, at least steer yourself away from extra cheese, deep dish, and stuffed crust pizzas, all of which have additional calories.

You can always remove some of the cheese off a top-heavy pizza.

Use a napkin to blot off extra oil from your slice of pizza. With about 14 grams of fat and 120 calories per tablespoon, any savings on oil will translate into big savings in your total calories and fat for the day.

So next time you're at the mall with your family or hanging out with some friends, don't feel guilty when you step into the local pizza place. With just a few simple changes, you can have your pizza and eat it too!
