What the Doctors Ordered Print E-mail

I’m not entirely sure whether Julian McMahon is more evil as supervillain Dr. Doom in The Fantastic Four or as the womanizing plastic surgeon Dr. Troy in Nip/Tuck. Either way, it doesn’t matter, because he makes villainy look good. And here’s how.

Turns out Julian’s an ex-rugby player and rower, so working out is like an old habit. He refuses to diet, but gets plenty of action outdoors, between cycling and taking five-mile runs. (Just the jog will burn about 700 calories at a shot.) He says his workouts help him stay sane, since “playing Dr. Troy all day long can get pretty exhausting.” His motivation? All those nookie scenes on Nip/Tuck. (He’s not the only doctor who works out to shoot in the buff—Eric Dane, aka Dr. McSteamy, goes to the gym four times a week so he can saunter around Seattle Grace in nothing but a towel. Of course, Dane also brags, “You could bottle my metabolism and we would all be billionaires.” McModest, he’s not.)

Oh, and one more thing—outdoorsy cardio wasn’t always Julian’s workout of choice. I just dug up a vintage article from Julian’s modeling days (he dreamed of being in movies or theatre) where he claimed to pump iron five times a week at his gym in Australia . “The fitter you are physically, the fitter you are mentally,” he advised then. So sage!
