You know, I wouldn’t blog about baby weight so often if
It’s become a contest, apparently—can you get back to your normal weight faster than the next celeb mama? When the paparazzi finally manage to snap that $100,000 pic of you toting your newborn around, will you be wearing your skinny jeans? (That pressure could explain the rising popularity of the “C-tuck”—a combo Cesarean and tummy tuck. Brilliant.) Julia Roberts, who delivered Henry about three seconds ago, has only a teeny belly bulge left from her pregnancy. Her secret? She walks everywhere and, naturally, runs after those crazy twins. Uh-huh. A little more telling: She made sure she didn’t gain that much weight in the first place, by doing yoga right through the ninth month and watching her diet. For example, her favorite snack is whole wheat pancakes without syrup. What a coincidence! Mine is cardboard. Marcia Cross is a little more forthcoming about her weight loss. She does exercise DVDs at home and takes weight-lifting classes at an LA gym. She also says, “I’m not eating cookies and candy and all that. Just protein and vegetables.” Tori Spelling is also doing the diet thing. She’s following NutriSystem—why does it always surprise me when celebs follow normal TV-ad weight loss programs like this or Jenny Craig? Anyway, on her new eating plan, she sticks to foods low on the glycemic index. That means carbs are A-OK, as long as they’re complex—oatmeal, whole wheat, etc. That sounds like the most realistic plan, and one that won’t bite her in the butt if she decides to get preggers again (and starts craving ice cream). On that note, I’m also anxious to see how Salma Hayek whips herself back in shape when her nino debuts in a month or two. She’s gained a lot during her pregnancy, but she’s always had a fabulously curvy figure. Will she get back to her former shape—or go overboard and end up super-skinny like other celebs have done?
