Realism Strikes Again Print E-mail

So, ex-beefcake Hilary Swank blew my mind a few days ago with her easyish workout routine, and now there’s another celeb—well, celeb-by-association—with a realistic diet and fitness regimen out there.

And since I can’t go ten minutes online without stumbling across yet another picture of Vanessa Minnillo downing pina coladas and splashing around with Nick Lachey at the new Cove Atlantis in the Bahamas , I figured I might as well research how she got bikini-ready. Because she looks good. She’s not the brand of skinny that's typical of past TRL hosts (especially the boys), but somehow the paparazzi never catch her in a fat-roll moment, and that deserves some props in and of itself.

Anyway, here’s the basic idea:

- She orders the light frapp at Starbucks.
- She swaps white rice for brown, which has more fiber.
- She snacks on Teddy Grahams, which are mysteriously low-cal.

Obviously that’s not all she does—she recently told Shape magazine she does a half-hour of cardio most days, followed by weight training. She also brings her man to the gym, but judging from his newfound spare tire, I think he’s strictly a spectator. But Vanessa's combo of regular exercise and “calorie bargains” (hello, Diet Detective!) seems to be working for her. I’d hate to be Jessica Simpson right now.
