Million-Dollar Body Print E-mail

So, I’ve been sort of leveled by a nasty cold that’s making me want to hide under the covers, watch daytime TV, and take three naps a day. It’s also impeding my ability to come up with a clever title for this story—so if that fabulous cliché didn’t give it away, I’ve got some scoop on Hilary Swank’s fitness routine.

Hilary’s always been slim, but in recent years she’s been slim in an uber-buff, don’t-want-to-meet-her-in-a-dark-alley kind of way. But she’s gone through an amazing transformation lately, and even though she still looks like she could give you a beatdown you’d never forget, she looks healthy, normal, and—dare I say—pretty.

Apparently that comes from three things:

1. A not-so-strict workout routine. Her training for Million-Dollar Baby included two-and-a-half hours of boxing daily, followed by two hours of weight lifting. She drank egg whites, ate 210 grams of protein a day, and packed on 19 pounds of muscle. She also horked during her first sparring match and got a hospital-worthy infected blister. Jealous? But now she’s lightened up on herself, and cut back to five lighter workouts per week—two days of running and three days of Pilates.

2. She eats whatever she wants—in moderation.

3. She takes vitamins. Not for weight loss, just for energy.

Sounds pretty reasonable (although who knows if “moderation” means “single potato chip”). Speaking of vitamins, though, there’s a half-gallon of orange juice in the fridge with my name on it. Then, who knows? Maybe I’ll squeeze in a three-hour nap before Ellen’s on.
