“Celeb Diets” I’m Not Buying Print E-mail

This week’s issue of OK! magazine is touting “Delicious Diets That Work” and, natch, the stars who swear by them. Except I’m having a hard time believing the celebs have read these diet books.

For example, the story suggests that Denise Richards is following the Snack Factor Diet, which recommends a high-protein breakfast, veggie-laden lunch and dinner, and two to three snacks per day. But does Denise really follow this plan? The story includes a quote from her saying, “I eat little meals throughout the day.” Okay, but…that’s not exactly the same thing.

Grey’s gal Katherine Heigl reportedly follows the Five Factor Diet—the same plan preferred by Jessica Simpson. This diet requires five small meals a day, with each meal containing five key components (protein, carbs, fiber, healthy fat, and a sugar-free beverage). I have three problems with this: One, Spaghetti-O’s and a Diet Coke would technically qualify, right? Two, it sounds a whole lot like the Snack Factor, right down to the name. And three, it does not appear to be working for Jessica. I’m not saying she’s overweight by any stretch of the imagination; I’m just saying she weighs noticeably more than she did last year.

I’ll take a cattiness break and move on to Mandy Moore, who supposedly follows the Cookie Diet. It sounds delicious in theory, but it turns out the cookie is a specially-formulated low-cal cookie which replaces your breakfast and lunch. This reminds me of another diet which replaces meals with ersatz dessert foods that taste like iron. Oh, and I don’t think Mandy’s on it, even if she did say, “I love life and I love my cookies.” I am just going to assume/hope that she was referring to Tollhouse.
