Jamba Lowdown Print E-mail

It’s been months since I’ve had a Jamba Juice, and when I spotted this picture of Rachel Bilson drinking an orangey bev (or at least holding one), I started having withdrawal symptoms. Since everyone but me is guzzling the beloved smoothies—Jamba may be second only to Starbucks in paparazzi cameo appearances—here’s a rundown of the damage they can do.

(Calorie and sugar counts are based on the Regular size. For some reason, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a celeb clutching a Sixteen or a Power.)
Jamba Light Mango Mantra: 280 calories, 57 g of sugar
Peach Perfection: 320 calories, 62g of sugar
Acai Supercharger: 420 calories, 74g of sugar
Matcha Green Tea Blast: 440 calories, 87g of sugar
Razzmatazz: 480 calories, 92g of sugar
Orange Dream Machine (my pick): 520 calories, 100g of sugar
Peanut Butter Moo’d: 840 calories, 122g of sugar
Read on...

The light flavors are still loaded with sugary calories; the rest are just obscene. One hundred grams of sugar?! I feel like I owe myself an apology. On the upside, most of the drinks pack your entire RDA of vitamins A and C, which is a plus for anyone whose typical veggie consumption consists of the lettuce on their cheeseburger.

More than anything, I’m amazed that Rachel Bilson—and fellow Jamba devotees Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, and Mischa Barton—can knock back 400 liquid calories at a time and still keep their weight under the triple-digit mark. Then again, I suspect they don't exactly bookend their smoothies with lunch and dinner.
