The Why: Bran flakes: Good. Being a flake: Bad. Maple Flakes: Great! (Up until we tried this product, we didn’t know what a Maple Flake was, either!) These are basically dehydrated maple syrup, broken up into little crackly pieces. They can be sprinkled on oatmeal, plain yogurt, or –our personal favorite – on top of waffles, sprayed with I can’t Believe It’s Not Butter spray. The Health Bonus: 1 teaspoon of maple flakes has only half the calories of sugar. What We Liked Best: The flakes taste great and are a lot less sticky than syrup. (Plus, the great sugar mill that grinds the flakes.) What We Liked Least: If you’re not a fan of maple, you won’t like this as a sweetener. The Price: About $5.99 for a 4-oz package. Offerings: Organic Maple Flakes, Organic Cranberry Maple Flakes, Organic Maple Flakes Mill. Website: www.decacer.com Where to Buy: www.igourmet.com Ingredients: Organic pure maple syrup.
