Gary Taubes' book finally has a release date--September 25, 2007

If you have been following the low-carb lifestyle for more than a few years, then undoubtedly you already know who Gary Taubes is. But the rest of you may be thinking to yourself, "Gary who?" It's been nearly five years since he wrote his classic 8,000-word op-ed piece in The New York Times called "What If It's All Been A Big Fat Lie?" about the healthy benefits of livin' la vida low-carb. This is an absolute MUST-READ!!!

That article alone quite literally rocked the nutritional world and kicked off the "low-carb craze" that ensued worldwide from 2002 to the present. The usual suspects on the low-fat side came after Taubes with great disdain at the time and tried to discredit the truths he shared in that masterpiece he wrote. Nevertheless, he remained strong and decided to write an entire book expanding his research into this subject even more.

Last year about this time, I blogged about this new book that is set to share how fat consumption and low-carb diets are extremely healthy for weight loss and disease prevention. I wrote at the time that the book was set to be released by the end of 2006.

But it never happened.

As of early 2007, the 450-page book that was to be called A Big Fat Lie? : What If Fat Doesn't Make You Fat... was then changed to The Diet Delusion but still no release date. Many of my readers were wondering if the book was EVER coming.

Now it's got yet another name and release date.

The Taubes book is now at Random House Publishers and is going to be called Good Calories, Bad Calories: Challenging the Conventional Wisdom on Diet, Weight Control, and Disease (ISBN#978-1400040780). It is releasing (WE HOPE!) on September 25, 2007...well, at least that's what we know at this point. But with the many delays on this book, I suppose nothing is set in stone for sure. :)

During my interview with the Eades last year, Dr. Mary Dan Eades said "the media will have a much tougher time ignoring the facts" when this book does come out.

"When it hits, watch out; it’s huge, detailed, incredibly well researched, well documented, and well-written and...should grab more than a few headlines," she said.

You can PRE-ORDER the Taubes book right now for more than one-third off at Amazon.com. This book will retail for close to $30, so that's a substantial savings.

The book is basically done and has been for a while. I suppose Random House is doing what they can to market it the right way. The title change to Good Calories, Bad Calories reminds me of what happened to Dana Carpender's latest book Every Calorie Counts forcing her to remove any mention of "low-carb" on the cover. Maybe removing the positive references to "fat" and replacing it with this calories mumbo-jumbo was their way of cleaning it up.

Regardless, the reviews so far have been awesome. Check these out:

“Gary Taubes's Good Calories, Bad Calories is easily the most important book on diet and health to be published in the past one hundred years. It is clear, fast-paced and exciting to read, rigorous, authoritative, and a beacon of hope for all those who struggle with problems of weight regulation and general health--as who does not? If Taubes were a scientist rather than a gifted, resourceful science journalist, he would deserve and receive the Nobel Prize in Medicine.”
-Richard Rhodes, winner of the Pulitzer Prize

“If Taubes were inclined to sensationalism, he might have titled this book ‘The Great Low-Fat Diet Hoax.’ Instead, he tackles the subject with the seriousness and scientific insight it deserves, building a devastating case against the low-fat, high-carb way of life endorsed by so many nutrition experts in recent years. With diabetes and heart disease at stake as well as obesity, those ‘experts’ owe us an abject apology.”
-Barbara Ehrenreich

Taubes promised me an interview when his book is FINALLY released, so I'll be attempting to do that in the coming months. Stay tuned to my blog for any additional updates if there are more delays on the book's release, but I'm crossing my fingers that this September 25, 2007 date is the BIG DAY! Are you ready for the likes of Ornish, Katz, and Fuhrman to go into a tizzy? It's gonna happen when Taubes gets done destroying all they ever believed about diet and health!

Bring it on already!
