Spring is in the air and the feeling of new life bursting forth always makes you want to do something refreshing after a long winter's nap.

For many there is a ritual of spring cleaning, much like the mother birds repairing the nest.  Even if you're like me and cleaning is a crisis management event inspired by nothing less than house guests, to very energy of life in the air fills your lungs.

It confirms on a very simple and basic level our reliance on the earth and our undeniable role as a piece of a vast galaxy of life beyond our understanding. More than ever we need the American public to look at what exactly Congress is doing to our health with their policies.

Now that topic is a chore, snore, boaring mouth ful of things that sound unhappy to swallow but there's wonderful news.  Much of what you need to know about what is going on has been put into film.

If you happen to be in the NYC area for Saint Patrick's Day, you may want to drop in to thje Food for Thought Film Fewstival for the afternoon.

Martha Ma of Nani Ola Productions has pulled together an impressive line up of features and shorts but also resources for supporting change in school lunches, creating co-ops and community supported agriculture, working to expand greenmarkets and more.

If you are not in the Big Apple or have other plans for the day, no problem there are options for you as well.  The event website has listings of some of the best titles you could see and many are available on the web and in DVD.

Other community type resources are probably available in your area but you can also contact Martha Ma for guidance in creating an educational food event in your area.  There was so much more I wanted to say but a crash event took my first column and now we're in a bit of a tight window so you'll get post event coverage next time

Knowledge is power and the food supply is the place where the power resides with the one who wheels the grocery cart.  Wheel on to sustainable change.  Enjoy and eat well.
